Any SAE (Set) Fans Here?

Any SAE fans here? I can't spring for a green monster, so I bought one of those 1986-2005 20th Anniversary Silver American Eagle Set (NGC MS68) from Apmex. I've eyeballed them for a while, and finally broke down and bought one. At $500, did I pay too much, tho? I hope not!:banghead: (Slight case of buyers remorse, maybe?!?!)

Oooooo..........well, if it were me - I would have put out the extra $200 for the MS 69, there are so many MS 69 sets out there, they will probably be more in demand down the road......but honestly, its not an unreasonable price for that set.........I've seen it go for a lot more.

THO, BRACE YOURSELF - you will probably hear a number of people here say any numismatic buys is a waste of money!! (On GIM there are two groups - bullion babies, the majority......and numismatic people, the minority.)

Most of my silver is in the form of silver dollars and other 90% coin. I have quite a bit of "dogfood silver" that I bought as scrap silver on EBay. This is the silver I plan to liquidate first in a crunch. But these are actually the first real bullion I've bought. I guess I don't feel so bad, I got to thinking I should have gotten 90% instead.

Well, at $500 for 20 coins - you paid about $25 dollars an ounce......where as, if you had bought silver eagles in a tube it would have cost you more like $17 a coin...........don't kick yourself yet.............

Figure, if you had sent each coinin to be graded - it would have cost another $15 per coin or $32 total.........which is why I would have paid the $200 for the MS 69 cause at $600 it was also a great deal........but either way, you now own a fine set of graded eagles.......a couple of which are worth a bit more than just bullion, like the 1996 coin, and saved $7 per coin grading.

As silver goes up - so will the valeu of these sets........

2 sets of 1986 - 2007 SAE Proofs all in original packaging, collected in the past 5 years, well worth it.

I only have one set of the regular uncirculated (I have a few proofs, but nothing like a set) in MS 69.......but because I have a few sets of the 20th Anniversary eagles 3 coin sets - most in MS 69, but one set with proofs in MS 70, I was shocked to discover I got an award and listing in PCGS's magazine, and on their site, as one of their top Silver eagle set owners.

Personally, I don't take it all that seriously except - when the time comes to sell - its listed and I can say its "recognized" (isn't that a great, and almost meaningless, word? I mean, could anyone recognize it from another MS 69 PCGS set? No - not even me!) and it might get a few dollars more!

Truth is tho - I bought it for the same reason I bought any numismatics I have - I liked looking at them.........I can dump all the rest of my eagle bullion down the road and still hold on to a complete set - and only takes two coins a year (uncirculated and the uncirculated -W coin, if they keep minting it) to keep the set current.

After one has a fair amount of bullion - either you continue to be a hoarder of bullion (and I am not meaning anything ugly in using that word) - or you get hit with a love of the coins and start bringing in a few coins just to be different.......thats why I got eagles, Krugs, Pandas, Philharmoincs, Maples, etc.......so when I take out my bullion it doesn't look all the same - and its more fun!!! Then one moves into semi-numismatics and the bug bites hard...Lunars, St Gaudens, and in silver Morgans!!!! I now collect toned Morgans cause no two are alike and some are so pretty!
